Interview  with  Dominic  V.  vocalist  of   Displeased  Disfigurement  done  by  Patrick

1.Hello     Dominic   please  introduce yourself to the readers?

Hey what’s up guys im Dominic , I’m the vocalist and bassist for displeased disfigurement from Middelburg south Africa.

2.When  did you first  discover  metal  music and  who  were  some  of the first bands you  listened to?Who  are  some  of your  current  favorite  bands?

I discovered metal from a young age, my parents where blasting metal since the day I can remember. My dad pumping nice golden oldies such as Sabbath and zeppelin, but  I found my first kerrang magazine when I was 11, with korn and slipknot and dimmu borgir, but when  I knew there was something heavier , meeting my guitarist 4 years later he introduced me Death, Broken hope ,Napalm Death , Cannibal Corpse, Carcass … from there on I knew this is what I wanted .
Currently some of my top favs  Cattle Decapitation, Analepsy , Aborted , extermination dismemberment, Devourment , Septic Congestions and the list goes on

3.  Displeased  Disfigurement   was  formed  in  2001  what  gave you  all the  idea to form this  band? And  who  would you  say  are  the  bands  biggest  influences?

The band started in 2001 with Darius on guitar and Nick on drums, the dream was just to make heavy music something that our country never had, I joined the band in 2005 , just as the vocalist , at that point we knew a direction to go in and that was just to be brutal ….the whole idea of being in a band for us was to live our dream of being in a metal band and just sharing great times with good friends.
Our biggest influences in displeased disfigurement ranges from , Aborted to Dying fetus  to benighted to Pathology….huge list of influences

4.What  is  the  current  line-up  of  the  band? And for the  readers  who  have  never  heard    Displeased  Disfigurement's  music  how  would  you  best  describe  it?
Current line of Displeased Disfigurement is :
Darius Wilkin on guitar
Dominic Vorster on bass and vocal
Mitch Wilkin on Guitar
Riaan Ondier Els on drums

To best describe us : we are brutal slam death grind band, we bring all our influences to the listener , we have no limits as to how fast or  how heavy we can go ,

5.Origin Of Abhorrence is  the  bands  newest  release  how  long  did it take  the  band to  write  the  music for this  release?Does the  whole  band take  part  in the  writing  process or does  one member  write  everything?

The whole album has taken us 3 years , we didn’t have any deadlines or due date for tracks to be released so we wrote as time went by , we all contribute to the band each member has their parts , we are unit and we feel all guys in the band have a different way of writing so, much better bringing different tastes to an album to give everybody a fresh feeling from the first track to the last track.

6.Dominic you are  the  vocalist of the band  so  I figure you  take care of  writing the  lyrics  where  do you  draw  inspiration  for  the  lyrics on  the  new  release?

I Write most of the lyrics but again I prefer the whole group contribute, all of the songs are given titles by the person who wrote the riffs for the song from there get a name that suits , and I have the job of creating a story behind this topic, but as members they have certain things they would like to hear personally so we are pretty open for suggestion with each other, On both albums , Darius added back up vocals and contributes to back up vocal on stage.
This album is mainly focused on how messed up the human race is , dwelling In topics from slavery to addiction to the mass government that pollutes our social and media lives, we combine modern horror with daily lives.

7.Besides  the  new  cd  Origin Of Abhorrence   are  their  any  copies  of the debut  still  available and  what  about  any  other  merchandise? If their  is  any  merchandise  available  where can  the readers  buy  it?

Our first album “extermination process” , we still have albums available , all merch can be bought through our Facebook or band camp page.

8. Displeased  Disfigurement  comes  out  of  South  Africa's  brutal  death metal  scene what  is your  opinion  of the  metal  scene  in South Africa?

The south African metal scene has grown into a gem of a scene , there is so much talent , passion , and dedication in our country, the scene in general has always been almost untouched by the international scene, but this has slowly changed and people are noticing more bands coming from here that are top quality, but with every scene it’s a growing one, south African metal has its own face and it will only get better…

9.Who   are your  favorite  South African  bands  and  are their  any  new  bands you  feel  the readers  should  check  out  soon?

There is so many to mention
The overmind, Vulvodynia,Theatre runs red, Boargasm,Maximum Carnage, Desolation.
Upcoming bands :Resurrection of fetal remains and Creating the god form

10.Besides  brutal  death  do you  listen to  any  other forms  of  metal  or  music in  general? If  yes   who  are some of your  favorite  bands and  artists?

I listen to all types of metal , nothing but metal though. My heart lies in brutal/slam/gore grind .

11.Dominic as  mentioned  you  handle the  vocals for the  band  when  did you  first  start  growling?Do you  do  anything  special  to  keep your  throat and  voice  healthy?

Ive been vocal ling since 2004 , the key with healthy voice and throat is not to strain your throat but rather using your diaphragm to get the pitches and range out, and if using the throat nothing that honey milk and some JACK DANIELS can fix.

12.Who  are  some of your  influences  and  favorite  vocalists?

Im huge fan of range and guttural dimension, travis from cattle has pretty much taken the limits with extreme vocals in my books…

13.Besides  playing  in  Displeased  Disfigurement  do  any  of the  members  currently  work with  any other  bands?

Indeed  Me , darius and mitch are in Bleeding spawn, Mitch is the vocalist in that band, check us out!!

14.Thank you   Dominic  for  taking the  time  to  fill  this  interview  out  do you  have  any  final  comments  for the readers?
